The Alexander Fleming series is dedicated to Sir Alexander Fleming, a Scottish bacteriologist known for his discovery of penicillin. A technical genius and sharp observer, he through his observation, refinement, and purification made the firstly discovered as mold, today’s Penicillin. His discovery changed the medical world, particularly by its widespread use in the US and British armed service hospitals during World War II. The writing instruments are decorated with a rendition of his signature around the pen barrel that represents countless prescriptions that have been written not only by Fleming but also by millions of doctors all over the world. The pen background is engraved in a vertical motif interrupted by delicate stem branches and spores representing penicillium as it appears under a microscope slide or under the glass. The cap features a reconstruction of Alexander Fleming’s original petri dish responsible for the discovery of penicillin. This twenty-third series of David Oscarson showcases the expertise of Guilloche engraving and the artistic mastery of hard enamel.
